Client Rights Statement
As a client, family member, substitute decision-maker, or caregiver, you have the right to expect that every CAH employee, Board member, and service provider is committed to respecting and promoting your rights, which are as follows:
1. To be treated with respect
Without physical, sexual, mental, emotional, verbal, or financial abuse.
2. To be treated in a way that respects your dignity and privacy
And that promotes your autonomy and participation in decision-making.
3. To be treated in a way that recognizes your individuality
As well as your needs and preferences, including those based on ethnic, spiritual, linguistic, family, and cultural factors.
4. To receive home and community care services without discrimination
In accordance with the Human Rights Code or the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
5. For First Nations, Métis, or Inuit clients
To receive home and community care services in a culturally safe manner.
6. To receive clear information
About home and community care services, in a format that is accessible to you.
7. To participate in the assessment and reassessment of your needs
As well as in the development and review of your care plan.
8. To designate a person to accompany you during assessments
And to participate in the development, review, and evaluation of your care plan.
9. To receive the necessary help to coordinate your services.
10. To give or refuse consent
To the provision of home and community care services.
11. To raise concerns or suggest changes
Regarding your services, policies, or decisions affecting your interests, without fear of interference, coercion, discrimination, or reprisal.
12. To be informed of laws, rules, and policies
Regarding home and community care services—including this Client Rights Statement—and to be informed in writing of the procedures for submitting complaints about the services you receive.
