Privacy Policy
CAH is committed to protecting the confidentiality of personal information of its service users, members, employees, donors, volunteers, and other stakeholders. Collecting accurate and up-to-date information allows CAH to provide our members, clients, and donors with the best possible services and care.
What CAH collects and why CAH needs it
To this end, CAH will collect, use, or disclose your personal information for the following purposes:
- To provide the requested services;
- To determine which products or services would benefit our community;
- To develop, deliver, manage, and provide services and programs that meet the needs of clients, caregivers, members, donors, and our community;
- To comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
CAH may request information by phone, mail, internet, or in-person contact. The information requested depends on the service or program requested. Most of the personal information collected is either required by law or enables CAH to provide services and programs with appropriate levels of care.
The 10 principles governing CAH’s privacy policy include:
PRINCIPLE 1: Accountability
CAH is responsible for maintaining and protecting all information under its control concerning our clients, members, and donors, and has appointed a Privacy Officer who is responsible for ensuring our compliance with these principles and all legal requirements.
PRINCIPLE 2: Identifying Purposes
When CAH requests your personal information, we will identify how it will be used.
PRINCIPLE 3: Consent
CAH requires your knowledge and consent—express or implied—for the collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information, unless otherwise required or permitted by law. In cases where your express consent cannot be obtained, we will seek consent from your substitute decision-maker.
PRINCIPLE 4: Limiting Collection
CAH will collect information by fair and lawful means and will limit the collection to details that are necessary for the identified purposes.
PRINCIPLE 5: Limiting Use, Disclosure, and Retention
CAH will use or disclose your personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected, unless you consent otherwise, or when required or permitted by law. We will retain information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected.
PRINCIPLE 6: Accuracy
CAH will retain and update your personal information as accurately and completely as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it is used.
PRINCIPLE 7: Safeguards

CAH will make information available to you regarding the policies and practices that apply to the management of your personal information.
PRINCIPLE 9: Individual Access to Personal Information
Upon request, you will be informed of the existence, use, and disclosure of your personal information, and you will be granted access to it. You may verify the accuracy and completeness of your information and may request that it be amended. Requests for access to or correction of information must be made in writing and addressed to CAH’s Privacy Officer at the address below.
PRINCIPLE 10: Complaints and Suggestions from Clients, Members, and Donors
CAH has appointed a Privacy Officer who will respond to any questions or requests you may have regarding our privacy policies or practices. Any complaints you may have must be submitted in writing and addressed to CAH’s Privacy Officer at the address below.
If CAH does not address your complaint to your satisfaction, you may file a complaint, in the case of personal health information, with the provincial Privacy Commissioner at:
